About the Role
Our Intellectual Property – Patent Prosecution team transforms clients’ most significant innovations into strong, strategic patent portfolios. We work with cutting-edge technologies and provide end-to-end patent prosecution support, including application drafting, office action responses, examiner interviews, and freedom-to-operate studies.
We are seeking a Patent Agent with a background in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field. In this role, you will collaborate closely with attorneys, fellow agents, technical advisors, and clients to understand emerging technologies and develop strategies to protect them.
Key Responsibilities
• Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications
• Assess scientific literature, patents, and patent applications across mechanical, electrical, computer science, and related disciplines
• Conduct patentability, freedom-to-operate, and clearance studies
• Analyze prior art and compare inventions against existing technologies
• Prepare detailed responses to USPTO and global patent office rejections
• Identify essential features of inventions and prepare comprehensive specifications and claims
• Present findings, reasoning, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Collaborate with colleagues to develop strategies and provide feedback on patent filings
• Work directly with clients developing innovative technologies and help shape their IP portfolios
Qualifications
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex scientific and technical information
• Ability to clearly present scientific concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Excellent organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities
• Strong collaboration skills and comfort working in a team-oriented environment
Work Environment
Collaboration is central to success in this role. The firm requires team members to work from the office approximately 60% of the time, consistent with our hybrid work guidelines.
